As the mainstream media and Wall Street fawn over repurposed television shows streamed for free on Hulu.com, TV.com and related network sites, independent analyst Bruce Leichtman wonders what the fuss is about.
In a nationwide survey of 1,250 broadband households and separate sample group of 250 teens aged 12 to 17, Leichtman found that only 8% of respondents watch repurposed TV shows online, compared to 24% that watch news clips, 20% who view user-generated clips on YouTube and 15% that watch sports news or highlights. The touted war between blockbuster sequels turned into a not unsurprising easy victory for family audiences says Box Office Mojo.
“Night at the Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian”, the first family film in the marketplace since “Monsters vs. Aliens”, easily took the top spot at the Memorial Day holiday weekend box-office. ‘Museum’ pulled in $15.3 million in its Friday opening and jumped to $20 million on Saturday.
